What is Cambridge English: Proficiency or CPE?

Cambridge English: Proficiency, abbreviated as CPE, is an exam that will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge of English at a C2 level (or C1 if you’re a bit worse). What exactly does that mean?

CPE exam and C2 certificate English language

English at C2 level is the highest-rated level of fluency in the Cambridge English Qualifications grading scale. By obtaining a C2 English language certificate, you will be able to prove to companies, schools or institutions that you speak English at a level close to that of a native; it is proof that you are not far behind linguistically from people who were born and raised in an English-speaking country.

I will add that many native speakers would not be able to obtain a CPE certificate (just as not every Pole will pass a Polish language Olympiad, right?). As a result, it is certainly a prestigious certificate – all the more reason to read about how to pass the CPE exam.

Is it worth taking the CPE?

Are you wondering whether it’s worth taking C2? Absolutely.
