If you have 100 products in your Prestashop faceted store, you can do without it. But if your catalog contains several , thousands of them, or their number is gradually growing, you have no choice. navigation becomes an integral part of the user experience. It does not work just for the sake of it. Its functioning is on logically attributes and features that create dynamic, contextual filters. Thanks to them, the customer can filter results according to real , instead of searching the entire category in search of one shoe model in a given color.

What is faceted navigation?

navigation, in the Prestashop environment , is a set of dynamic filters to the user in specific places in the interface – usually on the left side of the product list. Its task is to narrow down the search results on a set of parameters.

Explaining the concept of navigation.

In the context of Prestashop, these are attributes, features, availability, price range and other parameters to products.

Everything is on a advertising database set of data manually or taken from a product file – this data must be , correctly and to specific categories. On this basis, the system builds a filtering mechanism.

Example? A customer is browsing the “televisions” category.

On the left side he sees:

Each of these options is a guy – i.e. a filter

The customer selects values (e.g. diagonal 55″, manufacturer LG, price range 3000–5000 PLN), and Prestashop calculates and narrows the results in real time. Filters can work asynchronously, without reloading the creating customer retention programs with page, or in classic mode – with content refresh after approval.

The system can also dynamically adjust the available filters – if after selecting a specific size or manufacturer, other options no longer make sense, they may disappear from view.

In Prestashop, a special module

Navigation filters – is responsible for navigation. This is an official component, constantly by the calling list creators of the system, to work in versions from Prestashop 1.7 upwards. It works fully in Polish and allows for extensive configuration.

It is most often in the left column of the category page, but its position depends on how the template is . Some themes have their own hook positions, others require manual modification of the layout – it is worth knowing the structure of your own template.

navigation! on features! and attributes! must be by! a properly! index. It is! the attribute and feature index that constitutes the database for the filtering engine. Without it – filtration will not work.
